From Tim DeWesse, Director of Mental Health in response to my question: “Yes, the Mental Health Center uses the Coordinated Entry System for all homeless related services and support.”
That means no screening. This is under the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Housing First blueprint, which prohibits screening for:
- Citizenship
- JoCo resident
- Criminal Background
- Etc.
Unfortunately, I was the only NO vote on this allocation of these funds. I cannot speak for my colleagues, but before the vote on the $3.9MILL available for illegal aliens, Chairman Kelly stated, “Again helping folks who are already here in our community that are within a protected status.”
This verifies that Chairman Mike Kelly is knowingly allocating funds for illegal aliens and this is a phrase he used repeatedly in support of the proposed Lenexa low barrier homeless shelter.
This should not come as a surprise to anyone because as Mayor of Roeland Park, Mike Kelly worked for and passed in December 2020, a resolution making Roeland Park a sanctuary city.
On December 24, 2020 The Kansas Reflector reported: The ordinance says city officials aren’t obligated to use any funds or resources to help federal immigration agencies, such as the U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or to share information regarding an individual’s immigration status. It also says the Roeland Park Police Department shouldn’t provide support to ICE for immigration enforcement, unless there is a “specific threat to public safety or crime in progress.”
And so, Chairman Kelly’s WOKE agenda continues.
