My Focus

Lower Property Taxes

Each year, the BOCC does a two-step dance hiding behind the county appraiser’s office per the state’s constitution. They tell the BOCC what to expect in terms of tax revenue (in other words, what could be spent by the county each year) versus having a Board who understands the burden of ever-increasing property taxes through reappraisal. For example, since 2017, Spring Hill property valuations have increased 102%, more than doubling, with property taxes following suit. This rate of increase is unsustainable, as homeowners and small businesses cannot absorb this level of tax on unrealized gains.

Government spending is out of control.

Protect Transparency

Mike Kelly, the Chairman of the BOCC, dictated to suppress and censor the broadcast of public comments at Board meetings. A majority of the Commissioners from other Districts agreed with him. This is untenable. I support reinstating the long tradition of broadcasting public comments in their entirety.

The voice of the people must be heard and valued.

Support Public Safety & Sheriff

I support the Sheriff’s office and went to bat to fund sorely needed pay increases for our deputies on the front lines. It was a long, tough battle but in the end we were successful. And then this: can you imagine Mike Kelly, BOCC Chair, opposing the purchase of a mail scanner to keep drugs out of our jail? This expenditure was paid for by the Opioid settlement fund, yet opposed by our Chairman.
